Duties

Is the Police Officer/Station Commander with the direct control of law enforcement response of police officers, civilian and military, assigned to law enforcement duties during shift. Assess the overall operation methods and procedures to ensure law enforcement and security needs are adequately met for the installation. Ensure background checks on traffic and criminal offenses are properly preformed using the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Coordinate emergency responses between police, security, medical, and fire units. Dispatch police units to all activated alarms, emergency calls, and police service calls to conduct preliminary investigation. Conduct preliminary investigation and take charge of the crime or accident scene to include taking of statements of witnesses/suspects and detaining or apprehending at the scene of an incident/offense until release by proper authorities. Interview crime suspects which may require coordinate with other law enforcement offices or agencies. Perform duties as Arms Room Manager, responsible for ensuring security and safety requirements are maintained. Provide guidance to Police Desk Sergeants and Military Police Desk Sergeants. Coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to gather facts and evidence, request assistance when needed, and share information. Direct and coordinate the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization. Estimate and report on expected time of completion of work, maintains records of work accomplishments and time expended, and prepares journals of record.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy or complete within one year of hire date, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General (OPMG).
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation. Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • Comply with requirements and maintain certification under the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • Must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related Law Enforcement work functions. To Include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS).
  • This is a Drug Testing Designated Position that is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. A DA Form 5019R (Condition of Employment) must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Incumbent is subject to removal from the position if convicted of a felony IAW Section 639 of P.L. 106-554 effective January 20, 2001.
  • This is a mission essential position. In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Secret Clearance.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • In accordance with the Army Regulation 190-56 all applicants are required to sign a condition of employment statement as part of the application process.
  • In accordance with the Army Regulation 190-56 incumbent must be able to wear government-furnished police uniform and safety equipment (e.g., chemical protection masks must be snug to the face for personal protection).
  • In accordance with the Army Regulation 190-56 incumbent must be able to be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, teargas, radar gun and breathalyzer equipment.
  • The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies.
  • Felony convictions that occurred before the new law takes effect are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement. The law went into effect on January 20,2001.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
