About the Position: This position is located with US ARMY SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMAND, COMMAND SECTION, ASSISTANT CHIEF OF STAFF, SAFETY OFFICE FORT LIBERTY, NC
Duties
Coordinate and conducts industrial hygiene surveys, evaluations, and audits.
Develop and validates sampling strategies with Defense Health Agency (DHA), Installation Health Program Offices (IHPO), Medical Command (MEDCOM), Public Health Agency (PHA), and Office of the Army Surgeon General (OTSG).
Development of Regulations, Standards, Policies, and Technical Guides within the Joint Force, ACOM, ASCC, DRU for unconventional warfare emerging capabilities, designs, and innovations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical and an annual physical once appointed to the position.
- Employee must obtain a valid state driver's license. Employee must possess or be able to obtain a US government vehicle operator license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 4 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 50% of the time.
- The military ACU is the duty uniform (when deployed, or in field environment). Employee will be issued standard TA50 for use per local requirements, if required for OCONUS Field Duty.
- Employee may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or irregular duty hours to commensurate with mission requirements.

Basic Requirement for Industrial Hygienist:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
OR
Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technicology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.

Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Conducting comprehensive industrial hygiene surveys of routine and complex nature. 2) Preparing detailed technical reports of survey findings and recommending corrective actions. 3) Researching technical guidelines and literature which may be conflicting to provide clarification and explanations of policy. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
