The Program Specialist (Clinical Applications Coordinator - CPRS Trainer) is assigned to the WJB Dom VAMC Clinical Informatics/Office of the Chief of Staff. The position is responsible for training and administrative duties associated with the operation and administration of CPRS (Computerized Patient Record System). They provide a high level of administrative and technical support to users and management in the integration and implementation of clinically oriented software.

Duties

The Program Specialist (Clinical Applications Coordinators - CPRS Trainer) will implement training and support of Veterans Health Infrastructure Architecture (VistA), Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and other clinical applications relating to CPRS. The incumbent of this position is expected to understand the economics, structure, and networking in the VA system and the community. This position serves as a member of the CPRS VISN 7 Clinical Application Coordinator Team and participates in other teams as assigned. Duties for the position include but are not limited to: CPRS coordination and training including staff physicians, fellows, residents, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clerks, students including (medical/nursing/physician/assistants/pharmacy, etc.), and other medical center personnel. Training topics include: of Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) software, Authorization Subscription Utility (ASU), Problem List, Remote Data View, VistAWeb, Consults Package, Notification System, Order Check System, VistA Imaging, IMedConsent, CWAD (Patient postings), Allergies Adverse Reaction (Allergy Package), Laboratory Package, Order Entry/Results Reporting (OE/RR), Text Integration Utility (TIU - Progress Notes and Discharge Summaries), Group Notes, and Health Summary. Routinely make rounds through all clinical areas to provide CPRS support and assist end users with CPRS problems or questions. Provides first level technical support that may require independent judgment and initiative. Problems may be confined to a single customer or may extend across organizational lines and may require the trainer to utilize various analysis and problem-solving techniques. He/she will maintain a knowledgeable support base and tracks customer training and problem resolution. Coordinate and assist with the design and development of training materials, coordination of training, and actual training education of staff physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clerks, all students, and other medical center personnel. Works with the CPRS Section to formulate and direct the development of administrative CPRS policies. Provides both formal training and as-needed sessions to a diverse group of trainees within a continuum of competency levels and adapts training strategies to meet the needs of all CPRS trainees/users needs. Serves as a liaison for clinical services, evaluates the progress of the trainees, provides advice and assistance in the utilization of various computer applications. Serves as liaison between Clinical Applications Coordinators (CACs), IT, and end users to solve problems, determine template needs in compliance with the Joint Commission, and collaborate regarding performance and compliance regulations, modifications or enhancements. Serves as the focal point for incoming questions regarding CPRS applications or problems, while disseminating information to end users on policies and procedures relevant to the CPRS software. Resolves trouble calls when necessary and escalates trouble calls when conditions require further resolution. Other duties as assigned. If selected at the GS-07 level the incumbent will serve in a developmental assignment which is designed to provide the knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience to perform the full range of routine and nonroutine assignments with a high level of independence. Work will be reviewed by the supervisor to evaluate the following: adherence to designated policies and procedures; ability to deal with new, unusual and ongoing patient issues or concerns; ability to coordinate activities with other programs and services, and effectiveness in interpersonal relationships. In addition, the supervisor will conduct spot checks to evaluate the incumbent's progress. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. Superior academic achievement is based on class standing, grade-point average, or honor society membership. Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; Grade-point average (G.P.A.)-- Applicants must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society -- Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies.
