This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Plains Area, The Edward T. Schafer Agricultural Research Center in Fargo, ND
In this position, you will be responsible for serving as part of a research team conducting plant research in a laboratory and greenhouse setting.
Duties
Tabulate, statistically analyze and summarize data using personal computers and software packages.
Contribute ideas towards the planning, sequencing, executing, and documenting of the technical aspects of the research project.
Search for literature pertinent to biology for new procedures or techniques to use in the laboratory, field, or greenhouse environment.
Maintain, calibrate, and modify complex/specialized equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
Operate and maintain the equipment/software to perform routine experiments to data related to biology research such as Microsoft Office Suite, standard laboratory equipment, microscope, automation/robotics, and sterile hood.
Requirements

GS-06
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience collecting or evaluating biological samples; keeping detailed records of experimental data; and performing routine and recurring techniques using a variety of specialized equipment.
OR
Education: One full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, cellular biology, microbiology, agricultural biology, animal sciences, entomology, plant pathology, plant physiology, plant science, plant biology, biotechnology, fungal biology, mycology, and environmental studies if related to molecular biology.

A combination of specialized experience and education as described above.
GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is participating in research project related to molecular biology or fungal biology; statistically analyzing or summarizing data; maintaining equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.

Related degrees may include biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, cellular biology, microbiology, agricultural biology, animal sciences, entomology, plant pathology, plant physiology, plant science, plant biology, biotechnology, fungal biology, mycology, and environmental studies if related to molecular biology.
