This position is located in Yellowstone National Park, in the Visitor and Resource Protection Division, Open to the first 50 applicants or until 04/22/2024 whichever comes first. Duties

During the summer months, mid-April thru November, guide a team of subordinate employees and volunteers in managing day to day operations of National Park Service operated campgrounds by assigning daily work assignments, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work. Use Recreation.gov to process reservations for campgrounds, and backcountry permits. Explain rules and regulations to reservation holders and disseminate park information. Process reservation arrivals and departures for reservations made through Recreation.gov. Create, modify, and/or cancel reservations; monitor inventory and booked reservations for availability. Submit Helpdesk tickets to system contractors if appropriate. Provide informal and formal training and education to employees, partners, and volunteers regarding highly technical automated and non-automated fee processes, systems, software programs, tools, etc. Evaluate work performance of subordinates; effect minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases; hear and resolve complaints from employees, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to the higher-level manager; and/or develop performance standards. Give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Maintain contact and provide support for maintenance projects throughout the park that involve park managed campgrounds. During the winter months, November thru mid April, serve as a front-line uniformed representative of the NPS at Yellowstone's North entrance. Provide current and accurate information and excellent customer service to visitors concerning the NPS area and other surrounding areas of interest. Explain the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, wilderness/backcountry permits, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Distribute maps, brochures, and other printed material, inform visitors of potential safety hazards, and provide directions and routes of travel. Collect appropriate fees at a park entrance station and campground in accordance with established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Determine visitor eligibility for the sale of various interagency park passes. Operate an electronic cash register, computer, or other POS system to conduct financial transactions. Perform opening and closing shift functions. Issue entrance receipts, permits, park passes, and/or federal recreation passes in accordance with established guidelines. Verify entrance receipts and various passes for validity dates and ownership. Process refunds or upgrades as needed according to established guidelines. Interview and hire candidates for positions in campground operations: subordinate staff and volunteers for campgrounds in the northern section of the park. Area Information Mammoth Area Information: This position will be located at park headquarters in Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park. Elevation at Mammoth is 6,200 feet. Temperatures vary from an average of 70 degrees Fahrenheit in summer to sub-zero at times in winter. A school is available, with kindergarten through 12, in Gardiner , Montana , five miles north of headquarters. Free bus transportation is provided for school children between Mammoth and Gardiner. Many community facilities such as stores, a drugstore, day care, motels, and restaurants are available in Gardiner. A medical clinic is available in Mammoth. All other services are available within 55 to 75 miles from Mammoth.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/22/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience.For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement :EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: assisting with resolving fee program planning issues; assisting with identifying fee program/project needs; assisting with hiring, supervising, scheduling and managing others involved in fee collection and visitor orientation programs; resolving software issues that arise in the remittance and/or fee collection process; and leading others in fee collection duties. You must include hours per week worked. Please also include the grade level of any federal positions. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. REQUIREMENTS CONTINUED You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
