This position is located in Yellowstone National Park, in the Visitor and Resource Protection Division.
Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. This position works summer and winter, and is placed into non pay in spring and autumn when most park roads close. Winter season is mid December through early March, and summer season is from mid April through early November.
Duties
This position will be duty stationed at the West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. There are two periods of non pay expected; four weeks in the Spring from approximately March 17 to April 13 and a second four weeks in the Fall from approximately November 10 to December 7.
The primary purpose of this position is to supervise the performance of clerical and technical work that is associated with the collection, deposit, tracking, and expenditure of fee revenue and donations collected from the public under the authority of Federal laws and regulations such as the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA).
The incumbent performs assignments in accordance with all regulations governing the handling of government funds and separation of duties
Physical Demands: This position may require standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, and other emergency response duties.
Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work may be frequently performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.
This position is located at the West Entrance in West Yellowstone, Montana located 49 miles south of park headquarters. Elevation at West Yellowstone is 6,667 feet. Temperatures vary from an average of less than 70 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer to sub-zero in the winter. Temperatures of -20 degree Fahrenheit are not uncommon in winter. Most park roads are not plowed after the first weekend in November, and interior locations are only reachable by oversnow vehicle November through April. The West Yellowstone area provides many community services medical services, grocery shopping, banking, entertainment, UPS, etc.) Schools are available in West Yellowstone . Although this isolation is acceptable to some employees, many soon find it a hardship for themselves and their families. Reassignment is not an option. We strongly suggest you thoroughly investigate the remote lifestyle characteristics of this location in Yellowstone before applying.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience.
For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: assisting with resolving fee program planning issues; assisting with identifying fee program/project needs; assisting with hiring, supervising, scheduling and managing others involved in fee collection and visitor orientation programs; resolving software issues that arise in the remittance and/or fee collection process; and leading others in fee collection duties. You must include hours per week worked. Please also include the grade level of any federal positions.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
