The primary purpose of this position is to perform a combination of Electronics Mechanic and Aircraft Electrician duties. Responsible for modifying, overhauling, troubleshooting, and repairing and maintaining ground and airborne electronic equipment of moderate complexity.

Duties

Work also involves troubleshooting, modifying, repairing and testing aircraft electrical systems and equipment and performing final functional and operational tests of complex electrical systems and components Modifies, overhauls, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains ground and airborne electronics equipment of moderate complexity or systems of limited complexity Troubleshoots, modifies, repairs, and test complex electrical systems, components, and accessories with intricate wiring systems under actual or ground power Uses and maintains hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and microsoldering units Utilitzes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment

  • May be required to work rotating shifts or uncommon tours of duty. Subject to call back to meet emergency situations
  • The work requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance
  • May be required to perform duties in a Temporary Duty (TDY) status
  • This posn is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
  • This is a Testing Designated Position. Incumbent is subject to random drug testing under the Air Force Drug Testing program
  • Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
  • The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping.
  • Climbing and working in high places may be required.
  • Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components.
  • Works is performed both indoors and outdoors, in hangars, on flight lines, and in parked aircraft. Subject to drafts, noise and varying temperatures in hangars and weather, temperature, and noise extremes on flight lines.
  • Exposed to dust, dirt, grease, oil, fumes, solvents, and other aircraft fluids, while working on aircraft in various stages of repair or modification.
  • Exposed to the possibility of abrasions, cuts, burns from electrical or RF energy, electrical shock, skin and eye irritation, and falls from elevated work areas, e.g., check stands and aircraft structures.
  • May be subject to exposure to potential injury from turning rotors or jet blast during engine run-ups.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc. Use of test equipment: Electronics Theory of Electronics Ability to use hand and power tools - Electronics Trouble shooting (Electronic Equipment) Ingenuity (Ability to Suggest and Apply New Methods) PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
