Duties
Triage incoming patients to direct urgent and emergent cases to physicians.
Perform diagnostic testing and ancillary procedures using specialized equipment related to eye care services.
Provide assistance to the physician before, during, and after procedures by ensuring proper room setup, equipment setup, room cleanup, and restocking.
Maintain and update patient records with test results , prescriptions , medical history, etc.
Provide instruction and technical guidance to ancillary health care personnel.
Requirements
- This position requires a Childcare National Agency Check with Inquiries (CNACI) background investigation.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- This position requires the selectee to pass a pre-employment physical.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced certification (e.g., Advanced Life Support) does not supersede BLS completion.
- This position may require periodic immunizations (other than the influenza vaccine) and tuberculosis monitoring.
- This position is Inclement Weather Essential. This means that you must be willing to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- This position requires a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccine and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience conducting eye examinations; using ophthalmology and optometry instruments to ensure proper operation; AND performing various specialized tests and/or non-routine diagnostic or treatment procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Optometry, Ophthalmology, etc.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
**A Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Ophthalmic Technician Certification from Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel Ophthalmology is highly desired but not required. **
