You will serve as a Public Affairs Specialist, Special Assistants Office, Naval Medical Forces Atlantic, Portsmouth, Virginia.

Duties

You will manage all facets of a comprehensive Public Affairs, strategic communication and marketing communication program. You will plan, program, supervise and coordinate the overall functional responsibilities and mission activities of the Office of Public Affairs. You will determine goals for the strategic communications program. You will advise senior officials on attitudes of relevant groups on particular issues, as well as anticipated reactions, concerns, and implications for installation mission, offering recommendations for policy decisions. You will establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the news media and advise the command group and senior staff on policy formulation and strategies for media relations. You will review material, printed and electronic, prepared with the command, for public dissemination for security, accuracy, propriety, clarity, and conformance to Navy policy.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position such as: Experience assessing complex public affairs needs or situations and developing and executing a course of action. Experience using communication principles, methods, practices and techniques; analytical methods, research skills, practices and techniques. Experience enabling new ideas to be presented effectively in written or electronic communication. Experience selecting differing types of print communication options and writing or designing myriad products such as news releases, feature stories, brochures, radio and television segments and speeches. Experience analyzing effectiveness of communication programs and campaigns, assessing net impacts and making course corrections to achieve desired results. Experience integrating divergent viewpoints and ensuring plans and actions are established and conducted in a manner that fosters mutual understanding.
