This position is located at the Veterans Affairs St. Louis Health Care System (VASTLHCS). This position functions as a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor of the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Shop and the Machine Shop, Facilities Engineering Service - accomplishing trades and labor work. Provides supervision, advice and program development for Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanics, Maintenance Mechanics, and Industrial Equipment Mechanics.

Duties

Plans daily, weekly and monthly work to be accomplished by subordinates. Establishes deadlines and priorities for the performance of Preventive Maintenance (PM's), workload, and emergency responses based on methods, procedures, deadlines and goals. Determines what assignments can be completed concurrently, how many to delay, and the number and type of personnel needed (considering skills, personnel, materials and equipment available and required). Investigates work related problems and implements corrective actions.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Considerable standing, stooping, and bending is required. Climbing and working from ladders and scaffolds in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions is necessary. Using a hammer and other hand tools necessitates considerable arm and hand movement and dexterity. Items up to 50pounds are lifted and carried. Items over 50 pounds are infrequently carried or others assist in movement. Works both inside and outside. When inside, frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. When outside, is exposed to bad weather, works in mud, and in wet or icy areas. Exposed to irritations and discomfort from dust, grease, heat, and fumes. Typically inspects parts, equipment, and systems, which are dirty, oily, or greasy. Subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations, bruises, electrical shock, and injuries from falls while positioning and moving equipment. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective hearing devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, gloves, and protective clothing. Some safety equipment may be hot and uncomfortable and will be worn for long periods of time.
