THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: 103d Maintenance Squadron (MXS), East Granby, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the CTANG. Area 2: All currently employed full-time Temporary Technician personnel (Tenure 0) and all current traditional members of the CTANG. Area 3: Individuals eligible for membership in the CTANG. Membership must be satisfied within four (4) months of selection.

Duties

JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to serve as shop chief over a small organizational segment in a maintenance function with responsibility for the overall shop operation. One or more employees who perform work in the Sheet Metal Mechanic, WG-3806-10, occupation are assigned to the shop. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Connecticut Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the technician and lower graded mechanic(s). Performs the full range of shop work. Implements safety regulatory requirements. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. Determines approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in a variety of weather conditions;wet, slippery and icy roads, aircraft surfaces and work stands, inextreme temperature and humidity. Subject to the dangers from exposureto toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metalaircraft surfaces such as leading gears, speed brakes, missile doorsand flaps, engine noise, heat blast, intake suction, rotatingpropellers, explosive munitions, electrical voltage, cartridgeactuating device, liquid oxygen, fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, lubricants, paints, solvents and other hazardous material. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works long periods of time exerting self when bending and shaping or constructing the more complex items. Lifts heavy equipment and components weighing up to 50 pounds and with assistance up to 100 pounds.

Requirements

  • National Guard Membership is required.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
  • Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
  • Direct Deposit is mandatory.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double or grooved seams. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 18 months of specialized experience in the following: Experience or training in planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams. Experience using more complicated shop tools and equipment. Experience in using metals including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material and alloys. Experience demonstrating the use of more complicated mathematical calculations and complicated measuring instruments. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of aircraft design and structure as well as testing procedures and prevention of metal corrosion. Skill in the use of various complicated tools and equipment. Knowledge of metal strength characteristics (annealing, tempering and normalizing) in the selection of the proper materials for repair. Skill in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of AFSC. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application): Enlisted: E-6 through E-7 UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: 103d MXG or any subordinate unit MANPOWER NUMBER: 1050-611 POSITION SEQUENCE NUMBER: 1016522 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
