THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: 103d Maintenance Group (MXG), East Granby, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the CTANG. Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the CTANG. Area 3: Individuals eligible for membership in the CTANG. Membership must be satisfied within four (4) months of selection.

Duties

JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose is to accomplish the inspection, repair, modification, installation and troubleshooting of sheet metal, fiberglass, bonded honeycomb and other structural materials and components as well as treatment (i.e., mechanical and chemical), and painting of missiles, aircraft powered and nonpowered Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE), and monitoring aircraft and equipment washing. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Connecticut Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Independently inspects aircraft and determines the nature and extent of repairs to be made, using applicable technical orders as guide lines. Repairs cracks in aircraft skin. Troubleshoots aircraft structural repair situations in such areas as fuselage, tails, wings, cowlings, and stabilizers. Aligns and balances component structures and airframe using precision measuring instruments and levels. Inspects damage or deterioration and determines repair or replacement of plastic, fiberglass, composites, bonded structures, and bonded honeycomb assemblies using powered and nonpowered tools and equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in a variety of weather conditions; wet, slippery and icy roads, aircraft surfaces and work stands, in extreme temperature and humidity. Subject to the dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces such as leading gears, speed brakes, missile doors and flaps, engine noise, heat blast, intake suction, rotating propellers, explosive munitions, electrical voltage, cartridge actuating device, liquid oxygen, fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, lubricants, paints, solvents and other hazardous material. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works long periods of time exerting self when bending and shaping or constructing the more complex items. Lifts heavy equipment and components weighing up to 50 pounds and with assistance up to 100 pounds.

Requirements

  • Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
  • Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
  • Direct Deposit is mandatory.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double or grooved seams. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 6, 12 or 18 months of specialized experience in the following: WG-05 REQUIRES 6 MONTHS: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to use common hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments and make repetitive repairs. Experience which demonstrates a basic knowledge of the type of work performed by the occupational series. Experience providing assistance to the journeyman by performing the simpler and routine duties of the trade. WG-08 REQUIRES 12 MONTHS: Experience or training planning, manufacturing, and installing cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastening. Experience cutting and forming by using basic hand and powered tools such as hammers, chisels, hand snips, band and circle saws, squaring shears, seamers, bar folders, breaks, and stakes. Experience assembling parts by seaming, bolting, screwing, riveting, tacking, spot-welding, or soldering. Experience demonstrating a basic understanding of using measuring instruments. WG-10 REQUIRES 18 MONTHS: Experience or training planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams. Experience using more complicated shop tools and equipment. Experience using metals including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material and alloys. Experience demonstrating the use of more complicated mathematical calculations and complicated measuring instruments. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to plan, construct, assemble, disassemble, repair, fabricate, and install irregular items and systems having combined shapes to exacting tolerances using the least number of seams and amount of metal. Ability to work independently from written or oral instructions, blueprints, sketches, or personal inspection of items or systems to be manufactured or repaired. Ability to independently develop plans and make decisions. Skill in making layouts, patterns and templates using recognized trade methods and practices. Knowledge of and skill in the selection and use of special sheet metal tools and equipment without instructions, and to develop modifications to prototype or test equipment. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of AFSC. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application): Enlisted: E-1 through E-5 UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: 103d Maintenance Group (MXG) or any subordinate unit MANPOWER NUMBER: 1050-613 POSITION SEQUENCE NUMBER: 415204 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. STATEMENT OF DIFFERENCE: Individual selected at a lower level will be issued a Statement of Difference. Predicated upon qualifications, individual could be hired at the WG-10 grade. An individual selected for this position at the lower grade will progressively be advanced to WG-10 upon achievement of required qualifications without further competition.
