About the Position: Perform paralegal duties in the Administrative Law Division, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate (SJA). The paralegal supports multiple attorneys including: the Chief, Administrative Law; a Labor Law attorney; Special Assistant U.S. Attorney and, a general Administrative Law attorney.
Duties
Independently conduct legal research on a variety of administrative legal issues and drafts reviews on documents and files.
Interpret, weigh, and evaluate the laws and precedents and integrate into opinions, which analyze and summarize the law and make clear recommendations..
Research the law, evaluate laws and precedent; integrate all information into draft opinions.
Conducts legal research; interprets and relies on experience and research to resolve conflicting precedents and guidelines.
Provides litigation and administrative support to the labor counselor.
Prepare and edit legal documents, interrogatories, requests to produce documents, answers to interrogatories, answers requests to produce documents, exhibit and witness lists and affidavits.
Examines and evaluates requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act.
Use an automated matter tracking database and system to log matters in and out and query for status and reports.
Provide primary administrative support to the command ethics program, pursuant to the Joint Ethics Regulation, the Ethics in Government Act of 1978, and the Ethics Reform Act of 1989.

Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Pre-employment and random drug testing while in the position. Must sign DA Form 5019-R.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Notary Public License.
- Required to submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, upon entering position and annually.
- Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle should the need arise to operate a government vehicle/motor pool vehicle.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in case analysis and researching legal issues; interviewing witnesses; analyzing issues pertaining to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) procedures; providing administrative support to the labor counselor in various bodies and practice areas, such as: compiles case files upon initial receipt of case, secures all documents and evidence required for inclusion in case file. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Law or Paralegal Studies. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages to equal 100%. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
