Duties

Act as the Duty Officer in charge of the Fire and Emergency Services Emergency Operations section as assigned. Supervise and direct the work of firefighting crews providing fire suppression, emergency medical, technical rescue, hazardous material and Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and Explosive(CBRNE), training, inspections, and customer education activities. Participate in the planning and administration of comprehensive firefighting, hazardous materials, specialized rescue, and emergency medical services programs at installation of assignment. Direct operational activities of the fire station including care and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Provide basic and advanced life support treatment to patients within pre-hospital environment including circulatory assessment, cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, CPR, and management of obstructed airway procedures.

  • Individual must complete a pre-employment and an annual medical exam IAW DoD 6055.05-M to determine the reasonable likelihood of a firefighter’s ability to execute the arduous and rigorous essential functions of fire suppression and rescue.
  • You will be a Mission Essential employee. This requires you to work during an emergency to ensure continuation of essential functions. You may be required to work at the designated duty location, a telework site, or an alternate location/facility.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Supervisory Firefighter (Paramedic), your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-10 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: -Directing operations and crews in the areas of emergency response to fire suppression, emergency medical, hazardous materials and specialized rescue situations. -Performing basic and advanced life support techniques. -Supervising/managing fire and emergency services personnel. -Developing and enforcing standard operating procedures and policies related to fire and emergency services. -Responding and assuming overall responsibility as Incident Commander during all types of emergencies until relieved. AND B.SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF): Department of Defense (DoD) 6055.06-M, "Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program" identifies the level of performance required for all DoD Fire and Emergency Services personnel. The certifications listed below are the minimum mandatory certification requirements for this position. DoD Incumbents shall possess DoD Certifications, or equivalent accredited certifications from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Professional Qualifications System (Pro-Board): Accredited Certification: -Fire Officer II -Fire Instructor I -Fire Inspector I State of (Ohio, California, Virginia, Pennsylvania) Certifications: -Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic** ** If you do not possess a certification for the state in which you are applying, you MUST have National Registry certification and be eligible for reciprocity requirements. Other Requirements: -Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Certification -Valid State Driver's License Other training requirements that must be obtained within one year of employment and maintained: -Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVOC) -Hazardous Material Technician MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants for positions that have duties of a rigorous or hazardous nature must meet the medical standards described below. Since individual positions may not include all such duties, a physical condition or impairment may be disqualifying for employment only if there is a direct relationship between the condition and the nature of the duties of the specific position to be filled. Employees in positions involving firefighting duties or other duties involving arduous physical exertion may be subject to periodic (e.g. annual) medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position. (See 5 CFR 339). By memo dated 13 JUNE 2000, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Civilian Personnel Policy required DOD fire and emergency service personnel to obtain any and all applicable DOD (Department of Defense) Firefighter Certifications PRIOR to being place in or promoted to any firefighter position at the GS-05 grade level and above. DUTY HOURS: Incumbent is considered essential to the day-to-day operations of the installation and is subject to immediate recall or long term shift assignments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for extended periods of time. Incumbent is subject to shift rotation and assignment to abnormal tours of duty Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills and abilities) in the following areas: 1.Emergency Response (5232) 2.Fire Prevention, Inspection, and Code Compliance (5233) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
