About the Position: This job announcement is for a Deckhand Leader, XG-5788-06, with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District. Official Duty Station is the Motor Vessel Mississippi, position requires (non-TDY) travel with the Motor Vessel Mississippi, shift work, and mandatory overtime.

Duties

Lead others in work involving the handling and fastening of lines to moor plant and make tows. Keep vessel's gear and rigging in good working order. Adhere to maintenance requirements and general upkeep for the deck machinery and equipment. Follow manufacturer's manuals for maintenance and assembly of equipment and tools. Assign deck assignments to other Deckhands with minimal instructions and supervision.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • This position is covered by the DOT rules and USACE ER 690-1-1218. May be subject to random alcohol and drug testing on an unannounced basis.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This is a full-time permanent seasonal position. Seasonal signifies an annually, recurring period of employment of less than 2087 hours per year. During non-work periods you will be placed in a non-duty, non-pay status.

May lift up to 50 pounds or more. Work may involve long periods of standing, lifting, climbing, and walking. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside under all weather conditions. Subject to failing overboard and hazards attending moving plant. Subject to splashing and slippery decks. Uses hand tools characteristic of indicated duties.
