About the Position: The position is located at Fort Carson, Colorado, Evans Army Community Hospital. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credentials are highly desired but not required.

Duties

Receive and review prescriptions for the full range of pharmaceuticals, to include controlled drugs on the formulary. Determine type of substance, strength, dosage, and quantity to be dispensed. Perform final check on refilled prescriptions and new prescriptions that have and/or have not been screened and verified by a pharmacist. Provide information to patients on proper use of medications, referring questions requiring professional knowledge and experience to a registered pharmacist. Educate staff on proper storage, access, and security of pharmaceuticals.

• This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes utilizing knowledge and understanding of common medications prescribed to treat diseases; making required calculations and conversions to prepare appropriate strength and doses of medications; and filling or processing prescriptions to include those for controlled substance medication. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Pharmacology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credentials are highly desired but not required.
