You will serve as a NONDESTRUCTIVE TEST INSPECTOR in the NON-NUCLEAR INSPECTION AND NDT DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will ensure radioisotopes are safely handled. You will interpret specifications and instructions to ensure objectives and applicable requirements are met. You will provide direction and resolution to shop supervisors, ship’s force, and design personnel to identify and reject conditions. You will use computer programming routines to set and adjust equipment operating parameters.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You may be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: *Acquires and records test results and data using enhanced signal processing and acquisition software on state of the art computer-based platforms. *Independently interprets test results and determines final acceptance/rejection of items in accordance with specific codes and specifications without supervisory controls. *Completes and maintains detailed test records that are subject to audit. *Performs calibration and safety checks of test equipment prior to and after performance of NDT inspections. *Conducts radiographic operations and/or serves as Radiographer-in-Charge (RIC) for nuclear and non-nuclear radiographic inspections.
