In this position you will serve as a supervisory electronics technician, providing technical expertise in the area of electronics and data collection, providing reviews of test requirements and system setup. Furthermore, you will be responsible for the budgeting and investment into new capabilities and equipment.

Plan, organize, and oversee the activities of the unit. Perform professional electronic technical work involved in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes. Represent the organization with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Lead and supervise a team of electronic technicians by identifying, distributing, and balancing workload and coaching team members in the selection and application of appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques in the application of sled testing; develop strategies for training, mentoring, and continued development of subordinate technician workforce. Systematically applies expertise in electronics engineering to create new or substantially improved equipment, materials, instrumentation, devices, and systems

  • This position is Situational Telework Eligible (must reside in the local area) for UP TO a maximum of 80% of the time.
  • Amount of telework time and telework schedule will be at the discretion of the Selecting Official and implemented after entrance on duty.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY) approximately 30 days or less per year.
  • Duties require incumbent to possess and maintain a valid drivers license to commute using a government vehicle.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0856, Electronics Technician Series} located here. Basic Qualification Requirement: You must meet one of the following qualification requirements and provide documentation to support your qualifications before the closing date of the announcement. Specialized Experience: You must have at least 1 year of specialized experience at the NJ-02 or GS-08 or equivalent performing the following duties: Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set, and adjust short/long-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work. Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate significant and complex projects which represent critical segments of major operating programs in the field of electronics engineering. Establish, develop, and maintain effective working relationships with other organizations. Meet with key customers and coordinating officials to assess customer satisfaction, explain organization policy and procedures. Knowledge of the theories, concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, and materials of technical electronics, and knowledge of other disciplines. It may have been gained in the private sector, volunteer service, military service, and/or government service, etc. This series covers technical positions supervising, leading, or performing work involving applying: knowledge of the techniques and theories characteristic of electronics, such as a knowledge of basic electricity and electronic theory, algebra, and elementary physics; knowledge of electronic equipment design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance; and knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design, characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems related to, but less than, a full professional knowledge of electronic engineering .Electronics technicians may have gained experience assisting in work situations including: (1) Maintenance - Developing maintenance standards and procedures for use by others. Analyzing repair practices and developing procedural instructions for use by others on methods and steps to repair equipment. (2) Installation - Planning and directing the installation of complex systems and associated facilities, particularly where there are site selection and construction problems, dealings with contractors and public utilities, and the possible need to modify equipment for novel site characteristics. (3) Fabrication - Designing and analyzing circuits, determining design feasibility, evaluating equipment performance under varying environmental conditions, and collecting performance data. Designing or modifying designs to achieve performance and cost objectives. Evaluating the adequacy of equipment for such purposes as repair, calibration, and testing. (4) Testing and Evaluation/Research and Development - Developing or evaluating new or modified electronic systems. Completing testing, evaluating data, and determining acceptability of equipment modifications, validity, test procedures and data, or legality of operation. Technicians support professional engineers in performing experiments, research, and developmental activities requiring an in-depth knowledge of technical engineering methods, applications, practices, and principles to work on concepts, prototypes, and experimental projects that are without precedent and support state-of-the-art research. (5) Sustainment - Developing, performing, evaluating, or modifying calibration and test equipment, systems, and procedures. Reporting, analyzing, and archiving test data. Performing complex calculations and manipulations of test data to improve performance of systems, instrumentation, measurement standards, techniques, and procedures. (6) Troubleshooting - Analyzing and diagnosing faults in the operational configuration of electronic systems and equipment. Interpreting circuit wiring, logic cable diagrams, drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete systems and equipment to understand the function and interconnections of the various assemblies and troubleshoot the system. OR B. Successfully completed two full years of graduate education or a masters degree that it is directly related to the work of the position. This education has been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university NOTE: You must submit a copy of official college transcripts. OR C. I have an equivalent combination of successfully completed qualifying education and experience which may be used to meet total experience requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of the theories, concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, and materials of professional electronics engineering, and knowledge of other engineering disciplines to effectively apply engineering theories, principles, and concepts to areas of responsibility. 2. Knowledge of the principles of planning, program management, and standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures. 4. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization. 5. Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. 6. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
