This position is located in the Plant Germplasm Introduction Research Unit, Agricultural Research Service, Pacific West Area in Pullman, WA.
In this position, you acquire, maintain, evaluate, enhance, characterize, document and distribute assigned genetic resources and conduct research related to our primary mission.
Duties
Adapts, modifies or develops new techniques or procedures to satisfy the needs of the research project.
Maintains records and locates and compiles data and other information from various sources.
Performs the full range of techniques and studies using a variety of specialized equipment.
Prepares growing media, potting mix and fertilizers for use in controlled environments or field.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Time in grade: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
GS-7
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in a research project related to plants; record keeping and summarizing data; and operating and maintaining equipment and automated systems used for plant care.
OR
Education: Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education leading to a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include Agricultural Science, Biology, Botany, Ecology, Plant Genetics, Plant Science, or Plant Physiology.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above.
GS-8
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in one or more phases of a plant research process; care of plant and seed samples and extensive record keeping; and operating, maintaining, calibrating, or modifying specialized equipment.

Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Agricultural Science, Biology, Botany, Ecology, Plant Genetics, Plant Science, or Plant Physiology.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above.
GS-9
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-08 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience setting up and conducting an experiment or research project related to plants; care of plant and seed samples and extensive record keeping; operating, maintaining, calibrating, or modifying specialized equipment; and data entry, querying, summarizing and analysis of results for presentation in reports or manuscripts.

Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Agricultural Science, Biology, Botany, Ecology, Plant Genetics, Plant Science, or Plant Physiology.

A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above.
