You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEER in the DIGITAL ANALYTICS INFRASTRUCTURE & TECHNOLOGY ADVANCEMENT GROUP, PROTOTYPING, INSTRUMENTATION & EXPERIMENTATION DEPARTMENT of NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV.

Duties

You will lead a team of engineers to reduce redundancy and establish and maintain cohesive mission alignment with a focus on maximizing performance while reducing risk. You will lead, oversee, and execute the Division’s Mechanical Rapid Prototyping and rapid response efforts to meet urgent and mission critical operational fleet needs. You will implement mechanical technical requirements, standards, and processes that directly impact the speed, execution, affordability, interoperability, and reliability of mechanical instrumentation systems. You will will lead and provide oversight for all mechanical systems engineering efforts to maximize common solutions and speed while reducing total life cycle costs. You will provide mechanical engineering expertise and technical oversight of all mechanical documentation required to facilitate Interim Flight Clearances for test wing aircraft. You will manage, schedule, and coordinate mechanical engineering/budgets/fabrication/integration services to support department projects and other customer requests/requirements.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the DP-04 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Provide engineering expertise critical to the acquisition, development, and sustainment of air vehicles, emerging weapon technology, and enhanced defense capabilities; 2) Technical leadership and oversite of research, development, integration, testing, evaluation, and reengineering of major flight test programs; 3) Development of major mechanical instrumentation proposals to meet the urgent needs of manned and unmanned air vehicles, weapons programs, and external stores and responsibility for planning, directing, and achieving the success of the program(s); 4) Leading engineers and technicians - manage, schedule, and coordinate mechanical engineering/budgets/installation/aircraft modification to support department projects and other customer requests/requirements; 5) Effectively manage project, facility, overhead, and materials budgets required to maintain the structures laboratory and execute projects. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)

OR

Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
