You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the SPECIAL STAFF SAFETY DIVISION of MCRD ERR PI SC.

Duties

You will provide technical safety program management oversight for mandated programs, including supervisor safety awareness, mishap investigation and reporting, heat/cold injury prevention, fire prevention, and other safety programs as assigned. You will provide technical advice and assistance to subordinate commanders on matters pertaining to assigned programs. You will meet with and brief unit commanders and other leaders on their unit safety program and objectives, discusses quality of safety programs and presents suggestions for improvements, provides advice and assistance on technical safety issues. You will coordinates with other activities such as fire prevention, law enforcement, medical, the Depot Safety Office, and others to execute program objectives. You will provide review and comments on policy, plans, and guidance promulgated locally and by higher headquarters for integration of safety, and applicability/compatibility with mission and safety objectives. You will evaluate effectiveness of unit/activity safety program. You will plan, schedule, and independently conducts a variety of inspections and surveys of a full range of workplaces and operations involving a variety of risks/hazards. You will verify all inspections and surveys are conducted to determine compliance with applicable occupational safety and health standards, and to evaluate and analyze effectiveness of assigned unit safety programs. You will personally visit each subordinate unit and performs safety and occupational health inspections; prepares written report of findings and recommendations for follow-up action, and as required, meets inspection requirements of higher commands. You will investigate, report, and analyze RTR injury and property damage mishaps and near-misses involving assigned/supported units. You will initiates and carries out safety education activities, promoting safety awareness. You will prepare routine correspondence related to previously stated duties.

Requirements

  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You must be willing and able to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • You must be willing and able to walk 6 -10 miles unassisted.

Qualifications

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: developing, organizing, and scheduling a comprehensive ground safety inspection program to ensure conformance of safe practices, rules and regulations for detecting hazards, and determining corrective actions. GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assisting with developing, organizing, and scheduling a comprehensive ground safety inspection program to ensure conformance of safe practices, rules and regulations for detecting hazards, and determining corrective actions. Education

In lieu of the Specialized Experience above, an applicant may also qualify by meeting one of the following conditions:

GS-09:
  • Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree with major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours (or 36 quarter hours) of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR
  • Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR

  • I have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
GS-11:
  • I have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, with major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours (or 36 quarter hours) of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR
  • I have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR
