You will serve as an Engineer in the Technical Excellence Group (Code 7402) of the Electromagnetic Signatures Technology Division, (Code 74) at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division of CARDEROCK DIV NS, located in West Bethesda, MD.

Duties

You will provide technical leadership in Topside electromagnetic (EM) signatures, engineering, and technology; influencing projects, proposals, and direction of efforts based on stakeholder objectives. You will provide technical direction and oversight of Topside EM signatures projects including performing critical assessments, identifying issues, providing guidance to achieve solutions, and determining risk to meeting objectives. You will provide training and mentoring to division senior, mid-, and junior-level personnel in the development of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to support Topside EM signature technical capabilities and core competency areas. You will provide advice, guidance, and recommended solutions to division leadership on complex technical projects to reduce technical risk. You will lead the development and implementation of division-wide standards, standard operating procedures, PQS's, processes, documentation standards, and sound system engineering practices.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-04 pay band (GS- 12/13 equivalent) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional Engineer applying advanced engineering principles testing and developing technical processes to provide recommendations of standardized operating procedures or processes to support the success of project execution. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)

OR

Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
