About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. The position is located at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Duties

Serves as the primary staff advisor and senior network technician for the Network Branch (NB) for the 30th Signal Battalion. In a staff advisor and senior subject matter expert capacity, plans and assigns work to be accomplished by the 30th Signal Battalion NB section to include establishment of priorities and preparation of schedules for completion of work. Provides advice to management and technical staff personnel on the capabilities and utilization of network technology to support the mission requirements of supported organizations. Develops and analyzes techniques for optimal network operation and the provision of rapid, responsive and accurate technical information. Develops, in conjunction with the ADP Security Officer, procedural and security standards for server and network functions. Conducts studies on computer and network performance, capacity planning, and data communications security; identifying problems, recommending solutions and implementing as needed. Assigns or acts as overall project leader, coordinating network support group activities to facilitate projects designed to upgrade or replace required network services. Acquires, installs, and troubleshoots new or existing hardware and software systems. Establishes standards, methods and procedures in the use of the network configurations for developmental and production environments. Leads team of Information Systems Management Specialist in the development, testing, performance monitoring, and maintenance of automation and data communication systems. Resolves tier II network problems for which extension of methods and techniques are required in order to meet customer needs and correct problems that manufacturer manuals do not cover due to unique operating environments in the Pacific.

Requirements

  • Physical is required due to lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Position is subject to situational or ad hoc telework. Telework agreement required.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • The IT classification for this position is IT-I, Tier 5. This position is designated as Critical, Tier 5 sensitive. Incumbent must have a favorable T5/SSBI.

Qualifying experience would be demonstrated by having experience planning, evaluating, designing, integrating, developing, operating, maintaining, and documenting the network automation and communication for the classified and unclassified Installation Campus Area Networks; experience in providing overall tier II network support for the operational WAN/LAN networks on Layer 2 switches, Layer 3 switches, Routers and Encryption devices in accordance with established Department of Defense (DOD), US Army, and Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) directives and guidelines; providing ongoing support to information assurance requirements and activities designed to maintain the required level of security compliance for existing and newly introduced network Layer 2 switches, Layer 3 switches, Routers and Encryption devices hardware and systems in the ICAN; experience establishing standards, methods and procedures in the use of network switch and router configurations for developmental and production environments; providing support for anomalies and issues impacting the availability of network services to supported customer organizations.
