You will serve as a Lead Systems Engineer for a new missile system in the CAPSULES, SHAPES AND SIMULATORS BRANCH (Code 4512) within the PLATFORMS AND PAYLOAD INTEGRATION DEPARTMENT of NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV NEWPORT RI. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. ND-04 is equivalent to GS-12/13.

Duties

You will be responsible for platform integration, tasking as assigned for a new missile system. You will focus upon optimizing the development and integration of innovative technologies in the areas of platform and payload integration systems with the objective of bringing these advanced capabilities to the operational level. You will lead teams to seek technically acceptable solutions to challenging underwater environments associated with platform and payload systems. You will work on varied, complex state-of-the-art equipment systems, launch and combat subsystems, and/or unique equipment systems and subsystems requiring the application of advanced scientific and engineering theories, concepts, and principles. You will provide widely regarded expertise in research and/or development of new, or improved systems and equipment, advancement of current and future technology, or resolution of current and potentially controversial or novel problems. You will provide expert advice and guidance to managers, supervisors, peers, and sponsors on specific technical aspects of systems or concept development. You will ensure that systems engineering processes are applied across all project phases. You will ensure that systems engineering decisions are documented and based on sound systems analysis and life cycle considerations.   • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-3 (GS-09/11 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer or scientist conducting design, construction, and testing of combat systems or platform/payload integration systems for development of technologies to bring advanced capabilities to the operational level. FOR THE 0801 - Professional Engineering Series:
A. Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

B. Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. D. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)
OR
E. Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.

FOR THE 1520 - Mathematics Series: A degree in mathematics or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics; or, a combination of education and experience demonstrated by courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

FOR THE 1550 - Computer Science Series: A degree in computer science or degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours were in a combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
