You will serve as a LEAD SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY & HEALTH DIVISION; OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY, HEALTH, AND ENVIRONMENTAL (OSH&E) OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will ensure the organization’s strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated and integrated into the work plans, products, and services.
You will articulately communicate assignments, projects, problems, actionable events, milestones, and program issues with their associated deadlines and/or timeframes for completion.
You will conduct Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) inspections and surveys throughout the Shipyard to identify and coordinate resolution of OSH deficiencies.
You will prepare detailed records of Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental (OSHE) required documentation.
You will develop and issue new and unique OSH instructions/procedures as needed to address and resolve emergent issues.
You will perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned, necessary to the maintenance of an effective Shipyard OSH Program.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying a wide range of accepted and approved occupational safety and health concepts, principles, practices, laws, methods, standards, techniques and regulations required to identify, evaluate and control conventional and non-conventional industrial and shipyard hazardous conditions.
Experience communicating ergonomic principles to motivate individuals to act and work in a safe manner.
Experience applying occupational safety and health practices applicable to equipment used in the construction and shipyard industries, materials, utility and ship systems.
Experience recommending corrective measures when hazardous conditions and practices are encountered.
