You will serve as a POLICE OFFICER in the FORCE PROTECTION division of NAVBASE VENTURA COUNTY SEC.

Duties

You will develop law enforcement training programs, schedules, personnel actions, and operating plans for a police force. You will serve as a firearms range control officer in the operation of a range program for a Practical Weapons Course (PWC) or Firearms Training System (FATS). You will review and evaluate law enforcement staff actions for adherence to installation or training policies. You will explain policies, goals, procedures, and regulations to assigned law enforcement personnel. You will collaborate with training facilities (e.g., installation personnel, regional training academy staff) to supplement course instruction.

  • The DON does not employ individuals for Police Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Must successfully complete a required Police Training Academy or equivalent course, e.g. Navy Police Officer Academy; a federal or military police academy; or equivalent law enforcement training.
  • Must also successfully complete any annual sustainment training, Level 1 Oleoresin Capsicum contamination training (if applicable), and OC refresher training.
  • Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain the following training, licensing, and certifications: Explosive/Hazardous Materials Driver.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Preparing course materials in the field of law enforcement; 2) Providing up-to-date material and information to students; 3) Conducting lectures, discussions, conferences, and demonstrations on law enforcement, investigative techniques, procedures, and practical applications; and 4) Identifying training needs and requirements of each law enforcement student, ensuring training is scheduled and completed. NOTE: Experience must be fully supported in your resume to be considered for this position. Completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program is a condition of continued employment. Employee will be required to sign a continuing service agreement prior to travel to the academy. Agreement to Continue in Service - CSA, Agency requires 36 months of continued employment after the completion of required training from the FLETC in accordance with Title 5 USC 4108 and 5 CFR410.309. Failure to voluntary complete length of employment requirement can subject employee to reimburse to the agency for fees, such as tuition and related fees, travel, and other special expenses (excluding salary) paid in connection with the training.
