About the Position: The Maintenance Worker positions are located at Dona Ana Base Camp, Oro Grande, New Mexico. The positions perform preventive maintenance on small arms ranges, to include construction, paint, repair and electrical maintenance of target devices and buildings.
Duties
Fabricate and install targets, target pits, gun pits and grenade bunkers, target frames, lane firing points, Stumps, sandbags, road barriers, by fitting gluing, nailing, bolting, and screwing sections according to drawings and specifications.
Cuts brush, tree limbs, trees and grass to clear lanes of fire by utilizing mowing machines, tractors with bush hogs, and/or other tools and equipment as required.
Replaces broken or damaged hardware such as locks, hinges, brackets, etc.
Selects materials required and transports them to shop or work site.
Paints signs, targets, markers and structures by using standard coating methods and by the application of coating techniques that ensure surfaces are fully coated and protected.
Uses basic mathematics to plan, layout, and measure materials according to dimensional requirements and specifications.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Position may be required to work an uncommon tour of duty to include working, days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays and/or shift work, depending on the mission requirements of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Applicants' resume should document their ability to perform trades such as carpentry, painting, and electrical. I have operated a variety of tools and equipment associated with the trades. Reading and understanding blueprints to check dimensions and make modifications; Ability to check wiring connections and replace or repair of switches - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Must have full use of both hands, arms and legs. Makes repairs in hard to get places. Work requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping and stretching. Work requires uncomfortable and tiring positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 60-100 pounds or more with assistance. Must maintain fitness to walk covering distances up to 8 kilometers (approximately 5 miles) carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in shop and on ranges with exposure to rain, heat, cold, dirt, dust, grease, noise, odor, smoke and fumes. Work is subject to rotational shifts, as required, to provide 24 hour range support during training exercises. Worker is subject to cuts from hand or power tools and danger from flying splinters, chips and sawdust. Incumbent is also subject to electrical shock and burns when using electrical equipment or performing maintenance.
