The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in accomplishing trades and labor work. Serves as Test Cell Section Supervisor. Supervises 7 authorized civilian and military engine personnel and up to 12 total personnel when assigned for workload surge.

  • Will be required to work overtime, rotating shifts, uncommon tours of duty, weekends, perform temporary duty (TDY) and fly on military and/or commercial aircraft, etc.
  • Will be required to drive pov/govemment motor vehicle. Valid driver's license will be required.
  • Will be required to obtain an appropriate security clearance.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (Drug Testing) and is subject to random drug testing procedures.
  • Required to assist immediate supervisor in training less skilled apprentices/mechanics and document training records as required. Maybe assigned as primary trainer.
  • May handle hazardous materials and waste as defined and regulated under federal, state, base and local instructions or regulations.
  • Safety and protective equipment will be provided as appropriate to specific hazard and will be used at all times when working with hazardous waste and materials.
  • Must successfully participate in initial training and annual review of training.
  • Required to become certified to operate the T-400 and T-700 Engines. Additionally, required to become run certifier for both military and civilian employees.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WS-8600 Engine Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) supervised and personnel management policies, practices and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment opportunity Equal Employment Treatment. Knowledge of aircraft engines, parts and components to include disassembly, installation, operation, repair and assembly of a variety of conventional and modified aircraft turbo-shaft/turboprop engines and accessory systems such as hydraulic, fuel, electrical and pneumatic. 2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices and procedures. 3. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of hand and power tools, equipment and precision measuring and /or test equipment common to trades supervised. Skill in the use of diagnostic and on-board electronic equipment and systems, special tools, general and special purpose equipment, automated test equipment, standard and precision measuring instruments such as vibration analyzers, pyrometers, boroscopes and test benches, and to use computer terminals or personal computers to obtain reference materials and to update operational and maintenance records. 4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches and technical specifications. Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications, technical orders, manufacturers' manuals, maintenance bulletins, complex multi-view blueprints, schematic drawings and other technical information. 5. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. 6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
