You will report to the Mission Software & Ground Systems Assurance Branch in the Quality & Reliability Division and serves as a Software Assurance Engineer (SAE) assigned to one or more missions being developed at GSFC. As part of the Mission Assurance team, you are responsible for implementing and managing software assurance engineering activities, including software quality, software safety, and software reliability.

Duties

Develop familiarity with NASA software engineering requirements, such as those defined in NASA Procedural Requirements (NPR) 7150.2. Perform periodical assessments of a project’s software engineering processes, comparing those processes against NASA software engineering requirements. Review software products (requirements, design, and test plan/procedures), pointing out any deficiencies and/or risks; also support software test readiness reviews and software testing to assure proper software verification and validation. Assess whether quality processes, such as configuration management, are being performed according to the project’s defined processes. Perform acquirer and/or provider software assurance activities for GSFC projects. Define contractual software assurance requirements. Provide input to statements of work, contract data requirements, and assurance implementation plans. Develop cost estimates and staffing plans for new projects and proposals. Work collaboratively with the other SMA disciplines and Software Engineering to coordinate analyses, verification and validation activities, and the required documentation. Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Leading the planning and conducting analyses and evaluations of flight and ground data systems, addressing implementation issues with the software assurance standards and requirements and resolving Complex Software Assurance Issues; Providing guidance to branch software assurance engineers to ensure consistent implementation of software assurance practices across agency projects; and Supporting Center and/or Agency teams to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas that will promote process improvement. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:

a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
