Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a Health Science Integrity Officer, you will use your knowledge and experience to support the Department of Health and Human Services and provide leadership in cross-Agency scientific integrity efforts and activities by: Leading efforts to develop approaches to train HHS staff and improve communication and cross-Agency implementation of the scientific integrity policy. Serving as a neutral point of contact for receiving allegations of loss of scientific integrity at HHS and providing informal consultation for HHS employees who have scientific integrity concerns. Conducting an initial assessment of all formal complaints and submitted materials, following established procedures, to determine whether the allegations pertain to loss of scientific integrity and the appropriate handling of said allegations. Providing independent oversight of HHS responses to allegations of loss of scientific integrity referred for an inquiry or investigation. Evaluating research practices and misconduct at HHS with scientific peers who are themselves nationally and internationally recognized scientists.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Basic Qualification Requirement: Must have at least a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. AND Additional Qualification Requirement: In addition to meeting the Basic Qualification Requirement above candidate must also: Have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service performing at least three (3) of the following: 1. Overseeing implementation and improvement of scientific integrity policies or processes. 2. Communicating complex policy topics or the results of research to nontechnical audiences. 3. Providing leadership, expert advice, or guidance on scientific integrity or research misconduct. 4. Coordinating across multiple programs or agencies to further advance scientific integrity or research misconduct. Documenting experience: IN DESCRIBING YOUR EXPERIENCE, PLEASE BE CLEAR AND SPECIFIC. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
