You will serve as a TRAINING INSTRUCTOR (WATER SURVIVAL) in the Aviation Survival Training Center (ASTC), Naval Survival Training Institute (NSTI) Detachment of the NMOTC DET NSTI ASTC PAX RIVER.

Duties

You will perform duties as Safety Diver for Naval Aviation Survival Training Program (NASTP) training devices. You will perform duties as the Diving Supervisor for diving operation and NASTP training devices including 9D6 (dunker) and the Shallow Water Initial Memory Mechanical Exit Release (SWIMMER) and the Modular Shallow Egress Trainer (MSWET) You will maintain records for: diving qualifications (Dive Logs), conducting preventative maintenance on systems (PMS, and diving system certifications. You will prepare document records and equipment for Diving Operations Readiness Assessments/Inspections and safety surveys to include 3M/SKED program compliance. You will perform various duties such as conducting training in a formal classroom setting regarding diving, swimming, water survival, underwater diving procedures, and JQR training for assigned staff to qualify as instructors. You will apply safety protocol and procedures to provide a safe training environment for all students and staff. You will manage training spaces, equipment, and materials needed for water survival training course instruction. You will create and organize the functions, supplies, scheduling and administrative activities which are required to conduct the training program.

  • Must obtain and maintain a US Navy Second Class Dive certification from the US Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center (NDSTC). Failure to obtain and maintain the required certifications may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Must obtain and maintain high risk instructor, CPR and USN Lifeguard certifications. Failure to obtain and maintain the required certifications may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to be physically qualified and medically cleared for diving, with any required waivers already on file and in effect.
  • This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience utilizing automated systems (e.g., management information system, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) to extract information. Experience assisting with clerical and administrative functions to support the needs of the organization. Experience preparing reports and maintaining documents in electronic files for easy retrieval. Experience as a U.S. Navy Second-Class Diver, having graduated from Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center (NDSTC; 'Navy Dive School'); or significant equivalent military or private sector experience required. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities directly related/necessary to do the work of the position:

Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree

OR

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR

LL. B or J.D.,

Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
