Duties
Work consists of projects, casework, and assignments involving rights-of-way, land use authorizations, renewable energy authorizations, land tenure adjustments, land withdrawals, easement and fee acquisitions, trespass abatement, etc.
Serves as a source of expertise to other realty specialists resolving and/or evaluating issues that impact, projects, planning systems, casework, compliance, and environmental analysis, which relate to lands and realty programs.
Provides mentorship and expertise for a variety of complex and controversial lands and realty projects, assignments, and activities which typically cover wide geographic areas with significant natural resources and/or land management matters.
Assignments typically cover multiple locations including intricate features, unusual needs, and/or special demands. Work requires the incumbent to provide solutions to multifaceted lands and realty problems covering a variety of conditions.
Requirements

- Selectees w/less than 3 years exp. as a Realty Spec. (GS-1170) are req'd to attend a 3-part Lands and Realty Academy at BLM's National Training Center. Failure to complete/pass this Academy may result in your termination.
- May require a one year probationary period.
Qualifications

For GS-12:You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: experience processing various types of land cases such as public sales, oversight for rights-of-ways, Recreation and Public Purpose leases and conveyances, Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA) 302 permits and leases, Desert land entries, Indian Allotments, withdrawal review and action, military use activities, conveyance documents preparation and issuance, and data, billing, and collections administration. Note: Real estate work experience in the private sector is not considered qualified unless the experience demonstrates specific relationship to public land issues.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
Physical Demands: The work is typically performed in an office setting with no special physical demands. However, work may also be performed in the field which involves periods of walking, bending, climbing, or driving motor vehicles to worksites. The work may also involve some overnight travel for training, meetings, and site visits.
Work Environment: The work is usually performed in an office setting. However, work time may also be spent occasionally visiting field sites. Field site visits are typically performed in either an outdoor setting subject to weather changes, diverse terrain, and safety hazards.
Education
This position falls under the Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Administrative and Management Positions, there are no Individual Occupational Requirements for this series.
There is no substitution of education at the GS-12 level.
