This Program Support Assistant position is located at the VA Boston Healthcare System in the Social Work Service, located at the Brockton, MA campus. This position is a full time at 40 hours per week.

Duties

The position is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Boston Healthcare System, Social Work Service. The purpose of the position is to serve as an analyst and advisor to management of Social Work on the evaluation of the effectiveness of service line programs and operations. The incumbent requires knowledge of service programs and activities, the mission, policies and objectives, the analytical and evaluative methods and for assessing program development and/or improving organizational effectiveness and efficiency. The work requires skills in fact-finding, data analysis, systems thinking, oral and written communication and the development of presentations and reports. The incumbent in this position is involved with and responsible for a large variety of assignments across levels of care and populations served by Social Work Service at VA Boston Healthcare System. Major Duties The incumbent assists with providing support to Social Work Service in managing the administrative programs used by the service including: Timekeeping, Records Liaison, and SharePoint. The Incumbent also provides back up to the Administrative Officer in several areas: Adpac, HRSmart, purchase card holder, and PIV needs. Additionally the incumbent assists with general administrative functions as determined by the service. The incumbent is also responsible for Social Work Service wide assignments including support to the Social Work On Call program, General Post Fund and other social work service needs as determined. The Incumbent provides administrative support to several Social Work committees including System Redesign, Education and Career Development. The Incumbent is responsible to track and support Travel and Tuition requests for Service staff as well as ad hoc or time limited projects as assigned. Schedules appointments, coordinates meetings, and/or schedules conferences. Researches and provides background information on subject matter on meetings. Attends meetings, prepares meeting minutes, and follows up on action items with appropriate staff members independently. Obtains and monitors the use of services, supplies or equipment for the office. Answers questions concerning policies and procedures related support/office services and new projects, requests and shifts in priorities and commitments. The incumbent will be responsible for Social Work EIL and maintain inventory of products in social work service. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm Compressed/Flexible Schedule: Not Available. Telework: Maybe Authorized at supervisor's discretion for 1-2 days per pay period. . Veterans' preference does not apply for internal or other current permanent Federal agency employees. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. This is an NAGE Bargaining Unit position. Interchange Agreements with Other Merit System: Employees who occupy medical or medical-related positions and were appointed under 38 U.S.C. 4701(1) or (3) [formerly 38 U.S.C. 4104 (1) and (3)] must be serving in a full-time position without time limit and have served continuously for at least one year in this other merit system to be eligible to convert to the Title 5 System. Some exceptions to this rule may apply if you have previously acquired tenure under a Title 5 appointment. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay. The incumbent may be required to travel. Narrative responses to the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) will be required from the selectee in order to proceed with the appointment. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement 04/26/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience GS-7: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties the Program Support Assistant at the full performance level (GS-6), and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience such as receiving and directing telephone calls and greeting visitors. Preparing correspondence, reports, and other documents based on information gathered from program files or other records. Establishing and maintaining program files and records. Knowledge of various office automation software, processing procedures, and function keys to produce a wide range of documents, such as graphics or tables within text, editing and reformatting electronic drafts, and updating and revising existing databases or spreadsheets. Knowledge of standard office equipment, such as computers, copiers, fax machines, and office automation systems to perform a substantial range of office automation support. Proper use of grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and commonly used specialized terminology to prepare written material correctly. Note: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hour worked per week. TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. Physical Requirements: The work area is usually an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office of medical facility setting. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. The sedentary and may require some walking, standing, bending, carrying and/or lifting of light items like papers or books. The work requires light to moderate levels/times performing keyboarding to prepare correspondence. The duties and responsibilities of the position require mobility between various clinics within the Medical Center. The PSA must be composed at all times while providing customer service to Veterans and their caregivers during their emotional and/or physical stress.
