This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Healthcare Network (VISN 6), Richmond VA Medical Center (VAMC), in Environmental Management Service (EMS). The incumbent is responsible for textile care; laundry production at an affiliated and full tertiary care medical center, comprised of various healthcare wards and programs.
Duties
Principal Duties: Incumbent is responsible for assigning work tasks and setting the pace for laundry workers primarily on the clean processing section of the laundry. Ensuring all employees in this section wear appropriate protective clothing and follow proper infection guidelines meeting JCAHO, OHSA and EMS requirements. Incumbent monitors equipment and submit reports for repairs as needed; moves employees to different work areas to efficiently process all linen items for two (2) medical centers. The facility processes linen for three (3) military bases. Incumbent directs three (3) WG-7 Machine Operators, (18) WG-2 Laundry Workers and three (3) WG-8 Truck Drivers. Assumes the responsibilities of the WS-6 position accordingly as needed. Work along with other workers and setting the pace; demonstrates the proper work method for processing linens, uniforms and clothing throughout the laundry, and ensure employees meet satisfactory levels of production. The incumbent revolve through all processing of linens while passing on to other workers the instructions received from the supervisor while performing typical duties, such as, assisting in unloading and loading of trucks; receiving, counting and stacking ironed textiles; filling racks, baskets, or carts with clean textile items; ensuring washers are loaded, and the appropriate water temperatures/settings are used accordingly for the type of machine. Assigns immediate tasks to be performed and other work obtained from the supervisor on problems that come up during the work.

Physical Requirements: Incumbent is subjected to continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting. The handling of textiles may be heavy, wet or dry. May be required to do heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds). Must be able to move heavily loaded carts and work in a congested area.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
