This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Healthcare Network (VISN 6), Richmond VA Medical Center (VAMC), in Environmental Management Service (EMS). The incumbent is responsible for textile care; laundry production at an affiliated and full tertiary care medical center, comprised of various healthcare wards and programs.
Duties
Major Duties:
Responsible for assigning work tasks and setting the pace for laundry workers primarily on the clean processing section of the laundry.
Monitor equipment and submit reports for repairs as needed; moves employees to different work areas to efficiently process all linen items for two (2) medical centers.
Assign immediate tasks to be performed and other work obtained from the supervisor on problems that come up during the work.
Ensure that patients' personal clothing is prepared for shipment to the various areas, including the Clothing Room, while ensuring all clothing is correctly bundled; shipped to the correct areas.
Keep supervisor abreast of work progression through completion; and check finished product to ensure the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, method, and deadlines have been met.
Ensure the work areas are kept clean and sanitized at the close of the shift to promote good housekeeping.
Adhere to all safety regulations and remains alert for potential safety hazards, reporting these to the supervisor.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent is subjected to continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting. The handling of textiles may be heavy, wet or dry. May be required to do heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds). Must be able to move heavily loaded carts and work in a congested area. The incumbent works in a laundry plant subject to warm humid temperatures, dampness, high noise levels and infection hazards. Incumbent may be subjected to unpleasant odors, lint, and wet floors. Temperatures in the work area may vary from extreme heat in summer to cold drafts in winter. Wears appropriate protective gear as required.
