Duties

This position requires military membership in the Puerto Rico Army National Guard (PRARNG). Selected applicant(s) will be required to complete an online Onboarding process.

Requirements

Qualifications

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This position requires military membership in the Puerto Rico Army National Guard (PRARNG). If you are not a military member of the PRARNG (i.e., Airman, civilian, active-duty Soldier, prior service, guard member from another state, reservist, IRR, State Guard, etc.), you must contact the Recruiting and Retention (R&R) Office at (787) 289-1400 extension 2015 or 2008 and request the PRARNG Military Basic Requirements (MBR) Certification. If the MBR certification is not submitted, or you do not meet the requirements to be a member of the PRARNG, your application will not be screened. AREA OF CONSIDERATION: HRO MUST process and clear the Department of Defense (DoD), Priority Placement Program (PPP), prior to advertising all internal and external job vacancies and promotion announcements. Area 1 = All permanent Technician Warrant Officers and Enlisted members employee (NG T32/NG T5) within Puerto Rico Army National Guard. Area 2 = All indefinite Technician Warrant Officers and Enlisted members employee (NG T32/NG T5) within Puerto Rico Army National Guard. Area 3 = Warrant Officers and Enlisted currently serving members of the Puerto Rico Army National Guard. DUTIES: As a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE TECHNICIAN (D2121000), GS-0640-9, you will plan, schedule, execute, manage and administer the ARNG Industrial Hygiene Program for a state, territory, or district to maintain and promote the health of military and technician personnel. Coordinates with the National Guard Bureau (NGB) Regional Industrial Hygienist (IH) who works for the NGB Office of the Chief Surgeon. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Investigations and surveys involve moderate physical exertion, including carrying equipment, climbing, standing, walking, crawling and bending, as well as the use of personnel protective equipment, and occasional work in confined spaces. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The incumbent is exposed to a wide range of hazardous and unpleasant conditions during investigations, including toxic materials, high noise levels and temperature extremes. Use of protective clothing and equipment is required. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicantmust possess at least ONE (1) year at next lower-level GS-06 or the equivalent TWENTY-FOUR (24) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as planning, scheduling, executing, managing and administering the State/territory/or district ARNG Industrial Hygiene Program; ensuring statutory and regulatory compliance; serving as an advisor on State health matters; surveying, inspecting and evaluating operational and newly constructed facilities and various activities; identifying, evaluating and reducing or eliminating potential health hazards; determining appropriate survey methods and techniques; determining nature and degree of hazards for a wide variety of materials and environments; making recommendations on control measures and changing in work procedures or schedules; ensuring compliance with established health standards; performing special surveys of facilities and shops; identifying the potential physical, biological, chemical and radiological health hazards in the workplace; reviewing plans for new and existing construction and renovation projects; ensuring that applicable standards are incorporated; preventing adverse health impact; interpreting Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs); ensuring that the most current version of health hazard information is available.

Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Completion of 2 academic years of education in an accredited college or university will satisfy the requirements (30 semester's hours or 20 classroom hours of instruction per week) for 3 months of specialized experience. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Courses must be directly related to the work of the position.

Completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation (30 semester's hours or 20 classroom hours of instruction per week) for 6 months of specialized experience. One full years of graduate (30 semester's hours or 20 classroom hours of instruction per week) for 12 months of specialized experience. Courses must be directly related to the work of the position.
