About the Position: This position is located at 55th Medical Group, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
Duties
Coordinate patient scheduling to ensure a smooth flow of the daily services.
Solve problems that arise from late appointments, emergencies, or walk-ins that could delay scheduled patients being seen in a timely manner.
Arrange for patient consultations with other departments/facilities for such services as electrocardiograms, physical therapy, x-rays, and laboratory tests.
Organize patients records to research records, extract medical information, and review records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency with medical facility requirements.
Record detailed laboratory results and test reports and adhere to the regulations and directives concerning the Privacy Act and other applicable local guidelines concerning the release of medical information.
Transmit and receive documents and messages electronically using personal computers or workstations that are networked or linked to other computers or workstations.
Receive and direct telephone calls, messages, patients, and visitors.
Utilize various office automation programs for scheduling, maintaining patient records, and creating reports.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifications for Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation):
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes maintaining patient medical records and performing clerical and/or receptionist duties, such as, monitoring, scheduling, and rescheduling patients for treatment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
