The Defender Services Office administers the federal appointed counsel program consisting of federal public defender and community defender organizations and private panel attorneys. The Defender Services Program operates pursuant to the Criminal Justice Act, 18 U.S.C. 3006A.
Duties
The incumbent will work closely with the Chief of the Defender Services Office (DSO) and the Deputy Chief. The ideal candidate will have experience working collaboratively with managers, senior level staff, and with colleagues in a complex and multi-faceted environment. The ideal candidate will also have a proven track record for producing detailed, accurate work products, and an impeccable reputation for maintaining confidentiality. Additionally, the incumbent must communicate with diplomacy, and possess excellent judgment, strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and written communication skills. The candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as working collaboratively in a team with colleagues and external stakeholders.
Duties of the position include but are not limited to:
Assisting the Office Chief, Deputy Chief and Administrative Operations Staff Chief with preparing and maintaining highly confidential reports and gathering sensitive information and documents.
Assisting the Office Chief and Deputy Chief with preparing and maintaining recurring and requested office and business memos, letters, and reports in compliance with AO requirements.
Coordinating with office staff, which is comprised of attorneys and professional staff, to prepare reference materials and presentation media for the Office Chief and Deputy Chief to use when briefing judges, senior and executive level staff, and external stakeholders.
Assisting the DSO Temporary Duty (TDY) Liaison with posting announcements, coordinating start dates, shepherding MOUs, on-boarding and off-boarding.
Collaborating with Office Chief, Deputy Chief, and appropriate staff to update a wide variety of web-based communication and collaboration tools for DSO.
Providing administrative support to the Office Chief and Deputy Chief.
Supporting the overall mission of the Defender Services Office.
Qualifications
Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.
Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience is demonstrated experiences providing professional executive level administrative support while working in multi-faceted environment to include working with senior level staff.
