The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry's Office of Community Health Hazard Assessment (OCHHA) conducts public health assessments, health consultations, and other public health activities to determine the health implications of releases or threatened releases of toxic substances into the environment. Duties
As an Environmental Health Scientist, you will:
Provide expertise in environmental public health or toxicology.
Provide consultative services to staff responsible for projects dealing with elimination or control of exposures to environmental contamination and the health hazards associated with these exposures.
Provide scientific review and clearance of reports which document the analysis of technical information to assess the migration of environmental contaminants, human exposures, and associated health impacts.
Maintain a high level of knowledge related to advances within the field of health assessment and risk assessment to help ensure prepared and reviewed reports employ the most current science.
Supervise a small contingent of positions.
Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, considering difficulty and requirements of assignments as well as the capabilities of employees.

1. May require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including an assisted breathing apparatus and a whole-body suit while visiting hazardous waste sites.
2. Participation in site visits will require OSHA training (three or five days), CPR, and First Aid training

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience: providing scientific leadership and technical support on environmental health programs, environmental health and/or toxicology issues related to evaluation of exposure to environmental contaminants.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
