You would be responsible for the overall management of a Coast Guard child development center and function as the focal point for the child development services and family child care programs.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. To qualify applicants must meet the Basic Requirements of the position: Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position such as child development or early childhood education.OR Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement - Applicants must also meet the following:To be qualified at the GS-9 level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level (in federal service) OR 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degreeSpecialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Some examples of specialized experience are working in a group child care or other work that demonstrated the ability to assist in the operation of a child care center; training child care employees; assisting with the development of implementation of child development programs; teaching age appropriate curriculums for children aged from 6 weeks to 5 years.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
