This position is located in a child development center at Coast Guard Training Center Cape May.
Duties
The purpose of this position the overall management of a Coast Guard child development center and function as the focal point for the child development services and family child care programs.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.Typical work assignments include:- Developing and implementing programs for child care services provided at the unit and developing local child care policies for command approval. - Preparing staff, center facility, program, and parents for National Association for the Education of Young Children Accreditation. - Preparing an annual budget and funding request reflecting local child development and family child care program needs and resources. - Developing and overseeing annual program objectives and age-appropriate child development curricula and activities. - Interviewing and recommending employment of child development center staff; evaluating, counseling, documenting actions, promoting, and making recommendations of dismissals of employees when necessary. - Supervising staff work schedule, approving requests for leave, recommending employees for awards, and resolving employee complaints. - Providing guidance in age-appropriate behavior and discipline to staff, maintaining required records on children, coordinating parent involvement, and communicating with parents through a monthly newsletter.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Pre-employment physical and immunizations.
- Must obtain first aid and CPR certification within 60 days of hire.
- A successful CNACI investigation required.
Qualifications
To be qualified at the GS-11 level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level (in federal service). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Some examples of specialized experience are:
Managing the operation of a child care center, developing and implementing programs for center-based childcare services.
Preparing an annual budget and funding request.
Ensuring daily inspections are made to assure compliance with health, safety, fire, facility, and program requirements.
Planning and developing educational programs and/or projects.
Providing advice and assistance in the resolution of conventional problems and issues regarding program operations.

To qualify applicants must meet the Basic Requirements of the position:
Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position such as child development or early childhood education. OR
Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
