Duties

As a Statistician with technical experience and expertise in minority health and health disparities, public health, population sciences, or social and behavioral sciences, your duties include: Apply quantitative analytical methods to support program evaluations and data-driven decision-making Perform programming tasks (e.g., R and/or SAS), statistical analysis (e.g., time series, regressions, trends), and data visualization (e.g., dashboards) .using administrative data and/or population health-related datasets. Advise scientists on the selection of appropriate study design, statistical analysis, and interpretation of study results. Provide technical consultation for complex statistical studies. Prepare comprehensive reports of study results. Present results of studies to the scientific community at professional meetings and conferences. Manage contracts and reimbursable agreements with appropriate federal and non-federal agencies to acquire data needed to answer specific questions developed as part of the Institute research program. Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Statistician, GS-1530 position at the GS-13 level, you must meet the following basic education requirement: A. Possess a degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements is given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing. OR B. Have combination of education and experience; courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. In addition to the above basic education requirement, in order to qualify for a Statistician, GS-1530 position at the GS-13 level, you must have: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 obtained in either the private or public sector that included the following tasks and responsibilities: initiating, formulating, planning, and executing the statistical portion of analytic research projects; analyzing, interpreting and disseminating statistical research results for health-related study programs; planning, designing and implementing the research criteria and study design and methods for a health-related statistical research program; and developing and using automated applications and programs to analyze statistical data.
