Duties

As a Statistician with technical experience and expertise in minority health and health disparities, public health, population sciences, or social and behavioral sciences, your duties include: Plan and implement data curation, management, analysis, visualization, and reporting related to program and policy evaluations, administrative data analyses, and analyzes of large nationally representative population health studies Perform programming tasks (e.g., R and/or SAS), statistical analysis (e.g., time series, regressions, trends), and data visualization (e.g., dashboards) .using administrative data and/or population health-related datasets. Develop quantitative analytical methods to support data-driven decision-making Develop novel methodologies and metrics for program evaluations Provide technical consultation on and leadership for complex statistical studies. Consult with and collaborates with other scientists on aspects of study design, analysis, and interpretation. Prepare comprehensive reports of study results to include discussion of substantive research objectives. Assess the adequacy and quality of data used in the analysis. Initiate, formulate, plan, and execute analytic research projects and researches the quality of methodologies and measures pertaining to the assessment of the subject matter being studied. Develop and maintain statistical analysis programs for databases. Responsible for the development and management of contracts and reimbursable agreements with appropriate federal and non-federal agencies to acquire data needed to answer specific questions developed as part of the Institute research program.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Statistician, GS-1530 position at the GS-14 level, you must meet the following basic education requirement: A. Possess a degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements is given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing. OR B. Have combination of education and experience; courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. In addition to the above basic education requirement, in order to qualify for a Statistician, GS-1530 position at the GS-14 level, you must have: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 obtained in either the private or public sector that included the following tasks and responsibilities: developing and using automated statistical applications and software programs to analyze large, complex nationally representative statistical survey data; applying complex modeling techniques to determine statistical associations in the health field (e.g., logistic regression and survival rates); utilizing statistical theory and methods for biomedical research; advising and consulting scientists on a variety of problems involving the theory or application of statistical methods. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
