The Cardiology Device/ Electrophysiology RN is expected to execute position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care. Leading and organizing delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice, including access to care and discharge planning Using advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes.

Duties

1-2 years cardiac device experience preferred. International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) - Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) certification preferred. The minimum qualifications for this Candidate includes 2-3 years of professional nursing experience for a nurse with either a Master's degree in nursing or a Master's degree in a related field with a BSN or a bachelor's degree in a related field with an Associate degree or Diploma or Doctoral degree in nursing or a related health field. The Cardiology Device/ EP RN is a member of the Specialty Care Service whose role is to provide safe, prompt, and skillful nursing care for outpatient Cardiology patients to include management/ treatment of Arrhythmia patients and Cardiac implanted devices. Additional responsibilities include telephone consultation, triage of arrhythmia, and device related problems. The acuity of patients is within the range of those appropriate for outpatient ambulatory care scheduled for office visits for cardiology consultation, diagnostic tests and procedures, and treatments. Patients presenting with unanticipated acute cardiac problems are triaged to Urgent Care Center. All ages of adult patients, male and female present for care in the cardiology department. The Cardiology Device/ EP RN possesses the ability to provide a comprehensive assessment and triage through direct encounters, virtual video clinics, and telephone. Care is provided to patients with the goal of achieving quality patient care by improving clinical outcomes, increasing continuity of care, and minimizing health care costs. The Device/ EP RN works in close collaboration with attending Cardiologists, Cardiology RNs, and support staff. The Cardiology Device/EP RN functions within a nursing process framework for problem-solving and care facilitation: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Job duties are focused on achieving optimum mental and physical health and illness prevention. Incumbent is expected to perform data collection and analysis for the purpose of improving care to patient groups, Nursing practice in Cardiology clinic includes an emphasis on health promotion, accountability, assessment, education, infection control, safety, psychological support, administration, and research. A multidisciplinary approach is used to assist the patient, family, and/or significant other(s) to attain optimal functioning ability. Measurable outcomes and nursing interventions are individualized. Continuity of care is promoted through collaborative relationships. Care hand-off is communicated using Situation/Background/Assessment/Recommendations (SBAR) communication technique. Nursing care includes: 1) assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of patients navigating through all types of cardiology ambulatory office visits; 2) coordination and management of patient care during all phases of diagnostic tests and procedures, treatments, and discharge phase of care; 3) implementation of standards of care and practice for patients undergoing diagnostic procedures; 4) implementation of procedural education/prepping, specific positioning, and intra-procedural care; 5) interpretation of signs, symptoms, and diagnostic monitoring with reporting, documentation, and implementation of ordered treatments; 6) operation of specialized equipment associated with care, diagnosis or treatment of cardiology patients. The Cardiology Device/ EP RN promotes safe patient care by initiating active patient identification with every patient and does not use passive confirmation. The Cardiology Device/EP RN is responsible for demonstrating and maintaining full competency in the use and pre-treatment of reusable medical equipment (RME). Incumbent must ensure that the appropriate Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and manufacturer's instructions are followed for any step in the use of RME (treatment) in which Incumbent is involved. The Cardiology Device/EP RN is accountable to the Clinical Nurse Manager (NM) and the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM), Specialty Medicine, for providing the highest quality of nursing care possible for patients. This responsibility includes the utilization of general clinical nursing skills and knowledge in the area of care and patient safety, coordination of patients and education of patients/significant others as indicated. The Associate Director, Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive will review and concur/not concur on all RN evaluations not completed by an RN. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Compressed/Flexible Schedule: Possible for a compressed and or flexible schedule. Telework: 1 day per pay period Virtual: Not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/11/2024. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant. [NOTE: See exception in subparagraph (b) below for candidates who are enrolled in a MSN Bridge Program.] The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), previously known as the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) OR The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. In these programs, students are given a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX and should submit this certification to VA prior to appointment. Students do not earn a BSN, but receive a MSN degree upon completion of course work. A copy of the MSN transcript must be provided to VA. Bridge programs that confer a master's degree also fully meet the education requirement, even though a Bachelor's Degree is not awarded. OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Registration: A registered nurse (RN) will have a current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia. The appointing official may waive this registration if the RN is to serve in a country other than the U.S. and the RN has registration in that country (e.g., Philippines). The RN must maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with VA. English Language Proficiency: RNs appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR A Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience. OR A BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience. OR A Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. OR A Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience. OR A Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. OR A Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, and sitting. S/he may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing. S/he may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. S/he must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, and able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Applicants must possess the mental and physical ability to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment. Physical requirements may involve lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, and repeated bending. S/he must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as TB screening or testing on hire, as a condition of employment.
