The position is located in the Office of Museum Services (OMS). As the Associate Deputy Director (ADD) of (OMS), the incumbent oversees the largest federal grant program devoted specifically to funding museums. The position requires the performance of a variety of programmatic and administrative assignments.
Duties
If selected for the Associate Deputy Director position, the incumbent advises the Deputy Director and Director regarding the policy on the implementation and improvement of existing programs; the development of new grant programs; advancement of special initiatives; coordination with other senior level staff to advance the work of the agency; liaison to service providers; and representation of agency programs, policy and interests to museums constituents, the general public and special interest groups. Typical work assignments will include but are not limited to the following:
Serves as a key member of the IMLS senior staff. Participates in establishing agency plans, setting overall goals and devising strategies to accomplish those goals.
Provides executive assistance to the Deputy Director on matters pertaining to museums, other federal agencies, departments, and task forces.
Manages a staff of professional and administrative employees.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

In order to minimally qualify at the GS-15 grade level, applicants must meet the below specialized experience requirements:GS-15: To be eligible at the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as: (1) knowledge of and experience with various organizations (e.g., museum service and/or cultural heritage organizations) to develop and implement new grant programs that support the advancement of special initiatives; (2) knowledge and/or experience of the grants management process (e.g., federal, state, non-profit, etc.) to improve the performance of the agency's grant-making functions (3) ability to provide leadership, direction, and oversight to a team of professional and administrative staff.

1. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
