This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Campbell, KY.
Duties
Perform services to include scheduled and unscheduled mechanical and HVAC systems maintenance.
Conduct periodic equipment adjustments for safe and efficient operation.
Disassemble/Assemble air conditioning components.
Perform work such as the repair, overhaul, maintenance, and service of residential, commercial, and industrial air conditioning units and systems.
Perform work such as the repair, overhaul, maintenance, and service of uncomplicated heating units and systems.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a valid state Drivers License issued by a State or territory of the United States.
- This position requires scheduled/unscheduled overtime and emergency callback during non-duty hours.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical examination.

- This position requires lifting up to 50 lbs.
- This position may require the wear of protective equipment and clothing.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an HVAC Equipment Repairer (Preventative Maintenance) without more than normal supervision. Repairing and servicing industrial and domestic air conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation systems. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires handling and carrying tools, parts, equipment, and testing devices weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally carrying heavier objects. You must climb and work from ladders, platforms, and scaffolding to reach parts of systems such as fans, air handling units, water lines, duct work, etc. The work requires stooping, bending, stretching, kneeling, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside, outside, on rooftops, under buildings, and often in cramped areas. You are subject to burns, cuts, electrical shock, respiratory ailments, and to sudden extreme changes in temperature when working on walk-in freezer units. There is risk of irritated eyes, skin, and internal organs as a result of prolonged and repeated exposure to concentrated amounts of toxic refrigerant gases. The occasional wear of face mask and protective clothing may be required due to possible exposure to toxic refrigerants gases. You may be required to wear protective clothing and devices such as goggles, face masks, respirators, coveralls, safety shoes, and safety glasses. The work involves exposure to noise levels above 85dB (A), but below 110dB (A), which are reduced by use of hearing protective devices.
