As an Architect, you will serve as an expert in architectural design and building construction, and as such devises, recommends and solves complex architectural problems as they arise in the course of project planning.
This position is located in General Services Administration (GSA), Public Buildings Service (PBS) of the National Capital Region (NCR), Washington D.C.
We are currently filling one vacancy, but additional vacancies may be filled as needed.
Duties
Provides highly technical guidance and assistance to team members, including incoming architectural interns; internal and external customers by oversight with GSA procedures, policies, guidelines and applicable regulations for assigned projects. Chairs or participates in architect/engineer (A-E) evaluation and selection process. Evaluates and/or approves the work of A/E firms to verify design excellence and compliance with all regulations and design criteria.
Performs lifecycle, cost and/or condition analysis and similar architectural/engineering assessments and from those findings, integrates and quantifies requirements into a scope of work for the professional parameters of the project. Meet with contractors, manufacturers' representatives, and Government agency representatives to approve final requirements.
Evaluates design and construction objectives and identifies the optimal procedures for renovation, design, and construction, including in-house design and/or use of an A-E firm. Perform technical review of contractor-prepared designs and specifications for assigned projects. May personally prepare or review conceptual drawings or models, design intent drawings, or construction documents for assigned projects.
Provide contract oversight as needed on assigned projects, depending on the scope of work involved. Negotiates and recommends approval of contract architects/engineers (A-E) work / task orders with the contracting officer. When applicable, serves as the Contracting Officer Representative (COR), Contracting Officer Technical Representative (COTR) and advisor to the contracting Officer during studies, project design or construction.

If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected. BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ARCHITECTS: A Degree in architecture or related field; OR a combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience. Specialized experience is professional work in the design and/or project management of major architectural projects. Such experience must have provided knowledge of professional architectural and engineering principles, concepts and practices applicable to a full range of design, layout, construction, and repair and alteration activities.
