These positions are located in Mammoth Cave National Park, in the Facility Management Division. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 04/08/2024 whichever comes first. Duties

Must possess a complete knowledge of trail maintenance techniques and be able to recognize maintenance problems. This position may be called upon to serve as crew leader as needed. Must possess a strong knowledge of masonry tasks including the maintenance, repair, and construction of a variety of walls (both single- and multi-tier), bridge abutments, causeways, rip-rap trail tread and other structures built of a variety of stone using primarily dry stone techniques. Must possess a strong knowledge of log work/carpentry skills involved with the use of chain saws to fell, buck, notch, and/or shape both native and pressure treated logs and use of carpentry tools in construction of boardwalks. Skilled in the use and maintenance of masonry tools including single and double jacks, rock bars, line levels, string lines, tape measures, air-driven or pionjar rock drills and related attachments, chisels, cement mixers, trowels, etc. Skilled in the use and maintenance of log work and carpentry tools such as chain saw, timber tongs, draw knives, wood chisels, scribes and calipers, hand saws, power circular saws, jig saws, power and hand drills, power and hand planers, generators, and carpentry hand tools. Possesses skills to work from sketches, basic blueprints, basic drawings, verbal directions, and work orders. Must have knowledge of vehicles and equipment, load carrying capacities, and common trailer hook-up/towing procedures. Must have the ability to work with diverse volunteer groups of all ages, including youth groups. When dealing with visitors, park employees, and volunteer groups, must possess the ability to adapt to situations that could potentially arise between such groups.
