Position is located in Medical Imaging Service, Boise VAMC, Boise, ID. This position is restricted to employees serving as a full Lead Cross Coverage Radiologic Technologist, reporting to the Chief Technologist of Medical Imaging.
Individuals in this assignment share responsibility for managing and providing support to the CT department and General X-ray. The Lead Cross Coverage Technologist will be performing duties 50% within the CT Imaging Department and 50% in General X-ray.
Duties
Reviews all diagnostic CT and X-ray studies for accuracy, completeness and technical quality.
Coordinates the flow of patients through the CT and X-ray department by efficient assignment of work and maximum utilization of staff and equipment.
Performs CT and X-ray procedures when staffing levels require the incumbent to do so, to ensure that patient care is continued without delay or interruption.
Oversees image transmission and acquisition process to ensure that all CT and X-ray images are transmitted into PAC's system.
Practices hospital safety, infection control, universal precaution and oversees CT and X ray safety in accordance with regulations and departmental guidelines.
Assesses and reviews requisitions with clerical staff and technologists, interacts with requesting healthcare providers and radiologists regarding requests when necessary.
Ensures division activities are carried out to meet the goals of the department in a timely manner.
Coordinates the integration of the CT and X-ray department with other aspects of overall patient care.
Maintains adequate inventory levels and procures supplies for the Imaging department.
Helps coordinate repair of equipment with Biomedical Service and/or service engineers.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 4pm - 12am

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination.
Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).]
Credentialing Standards. Public Law 97-35, the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75, Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and be certified as radiographers in their field.
Grade Determinations: Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, GS-10
Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level.
The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific
KSAs designated by an asterisk (*):
Ability to provide feedback to supervisor on technical aspects of work.
*Ability to resolve informal employee complaints.
*Ability to monitor and report on the status and progress of work and make adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established procedures.
Ability to perform general and specialized diagnostic radiologic procedures in advanced levels of complex treatment situations.
Preferred Experience: Must be ARRT, R and CT certified. Three years of CT experience
