This Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) Teleradiology PACS Coordination position is assigned to Radiology Service within the Ralph H. Johnson VA Healthcare System. This position works with the tele radiologists on-site at the RHJVAMC who provide radiology coverage for other VA facilities within VISN 7.
Duties
Assigned duties but not limited to:
Performs Vista Radiology, PACS support activities within the Radiology Service for the Teleradiology program.
Assists with local Vista Radiology, PACS support activities and general ADPAC duties as needed by the RHJVAMC PACS Manager in Radiology.
Provides constant monitoring and feedback to teleradiology doctors during the evening shifts.
Fixes broken and corrupted studies and reports; splits and merges studies and reports as needed.
Provides first line technical PACS and dictation software support during their tour for the program.
Works closely with IT specialists and Biomed Engineering as needed.
Assists with the plans, installation, testing and implementation of PACS and related systems including application systems under the guidance of the facility PACS manager, networking interface software and system administrative software.
Performs daily analysis of all Teleradiology exams, ensuring proper transmission of images, completion of imaging reports and completion of exams.
Assists with PACS and Biomedical personnel assigned to Radiology, Vista Imaging users, and support personnel on computer related matters to ensure that all issues are adequately addressed, and interface activities are conducted as effectively and efficiently as possible.
Provides training to radiologists in the Teleradiology program in proper and efficient use of imaging hardware and software in the use of PACS, Vista and CPRS.
Assists all end users in the Teleradiology program with PACS related issues.
Provides analysis to Chief of Radiology when requested to identify problems, gathers data, and proposes solutions to problems and barriers to establishment of an efficient, cost effective teleradiology program environment.
Keeps abreast of image related computer software developments and applications packages throughout the VA and the community as well as current developments in related to hardware used by the Vista Radiology and commercial PACS system.
Support and maintain the requirements of applicable accreditation and survey requirements imposed on the service line by JCAHO, OSHA, FDA, NRC and other regulatory agencies, including inspection criteria and grading methods, as they affect the needs and demands upon the administrative management of the various divisions.
Knowledge of JCAHO requirements and other regulatory requirements. Maintain continuing education requirements, including RHJVAMC requirements such as Radiation Safety, Fare and Safety classes, Infection control, etc.
Work Schedule: The hours are mid shift: 2:00pm- 10:00pm, 3:00pm-11:00pm or 4pm -12pm - Schedule determined by the service .

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency: DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and7407(d).
Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R)
Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).
Credentialing Standards: Public Law 97-35, the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75, Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and be certified as radiographers in their field. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations:
Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, GS-9:Experience: At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-8), directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. GS-8 experience is defined as: Ability to check system for operation and assess acceptable performance based on established guidelines; knowledge of calibration parameters and the ability to make adjustments as needed; knowledge of patient's clinical record, diagnosis, and laboratory results; ability to monitor patient's physiologic changes during the procedure and keep the radiologist informed; skill in using tact, diplomacy, and courtesy in dealings with the customer base, patients, staff, family, visitors, and volunteers; and knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and cross-sectional anatomy, recognizing unusual images, and determining proper positioning to best demonstrate areas of interest.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*):
1. Ability to balance the needs of patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures.
2. Knowledge of techniques for gathering relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers.
3. Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure. iv. Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography.
4. Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous methods and techniques and universal precautions.
5. Knowledge of pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients.
